G'day and welcome to my website! My name is Davin George, I'm a Kiwi "New Zealander" living in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
I work in Information Technology (IT) as a Team Leader for a relativel large size company managing a team responsible for the IT Infrastructure across the organisation. My speciality is primarily in Linux/Solaris/Windows in High Performance Enterprise Environments deploying technologies such as streaming media, games, authentication, messaging and transaction based systems. My strengths are within the infrastructure and application arena in particular system integration. Previous companies I have worked for include America Online, The Walt Disney Company, British Telecom and Yahoo. I'm a technologist at heart and enjoying staying up with the latest developments and trends hence the reason I chose IT as my profession. Its something I excel at and enjoy, its not just a 9 - 5 job for me, its my life!
Outside of work I'm a photographer and computer enthusiast. I'm also a gamer (board/computer) in particular strategy and fantasy. I enjoy some first shooter type but more just to chill as opposed to anything serious.
I'm also a strong supporter of Open Source Technologies with this website being built using Website Baker. Expect to see quite a few changes until I've decided I'm relatively happy with the layout and content. If you have any suggestions please let me know, I'm always open to constructive critism or recommendation. Do bear in mind I'm learning HTML and CSS presently but this is an area that although I work in it, I don't code properly yet but I'm learning.
I also collect and grow Carnivorous Plants with a small collection of some 70 plants from across the globe. Most of these species are from warmer climates with quite a few being local species. I'm interested in most things involving nature, in particular native plants and animals. We also keep a hive of Australia Native Stingless Bees, a species called Trigona Carbonaria which we keep in the front yard. The kids have really taken to them and take every opportunity to show the hive of to their friends. The plan is for us to end up with 3 maybe 4 hives to help with pollination and also for their wondering SugarBag honey.
I'm married to an excellent German woman whom I met online back in the late 90s and we have two children. I'm lucky enough to have a wife who is also a technology junkie with her presently being the IT Specialist/PA for a psychological testing organisation which she has found to be a challenge but one she really enjoys. So our kids are growing up IT Junkies and at present Leon is really enjoying the online games of Disney and the BBC. Plus of course both of their Nintendo DS's.
